World Music Day 2014 with Peter Kaukiainen - 21 Jun

To celebrate World Music Day on June 21, we invited Peter Kaukiainen to visit our preschool in the week leading up to World Music Day.  Peter can play more than 200 instruments! He showed the children 19 different instruments and demonstrated the different sounds they make. We learnt about the percussion instruments which you shake or hit like the rain stick; the wind instruments such as the Indian flute, tenor and bass recorders which produced low sounds (the larger the instrument the lower the sound); the brass instruments such as the bass saxophone and French horn, which sounded like an elephant; and the string instruments on which we counted the strings, including mandolin (8 strings), violin and ukulele (4 strings).
